Kumanu was founded as JOOL Health in 2015 by Dr. Vic Strecher. It was rebranded as Kumanu, the first purpose-centered workforce wellbeing platform company, in 2019.

Kumanu's roughly 30 employees, consultants, and advisors bring extensive and unique experience of designing, leading, and delivering innovative solutions in the workforce wellbeing space. In fact, if you name a leading employee wellbeing company, chances are we had a hand in building it. We currently reach over 700,000 eligible lives in our client organizations.

Kumanu's Purposeful platform stands on the shoulders of over 30 years of scientific research in health behavior change with applied digital technology. Dr. Strecher's first company, HealthMedia, was a spin-off of his research lab at the University of Michigan and pioneered the category of digital health coaching. That company was acquired by J&J in 2008. Kumanu is the latest-generation company applying leading science and technological advancements, built upon over 50 million dollars of R&D funding.

Kumanu is a privately held organization centered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Its platform is HITRUST certified.
